What is the Metro?

The Metro nozzle is built for firefighters demanding reliability and hard-hitting streams to tackle the toughest challenges. Designed for aggressive fire departments, it delivers exceptional performance with user-specified fixed flow rates between 95–325 GPM (360–1230 LPM) and pressures of 50, 75, or 100 PSI (3, 5, or 7 bar). The changeable flow disc future-proofs your investment, enabling easy flow rate adjustments without replacing nozzles. Lightweight, durable, and highly maneuverable, the Metro nozzle thrives in demanding environments, making it a trusted tool for your team.

What Problems Does the Metro Solve?

  • Hydraulic Confusion: The Metro only has 1 flow rate at a rated pressure. This simplifies operation to make initial attack easy and effective.
  • Lack of Flow Rate Control: Allows for user-specified flow and pressure ratings. If your operations change, all you have to do is change the flow disk at the end of the nozzle.

Key Features of the Metro Nozzle

High Flow Performance

Capable of delivering user-specified fixed flow rates between 95–325 GPM (360–1230 LPM) at pressures of 50, 75, or 100 PSI (3, 5, or 7 bar), the Metro nozzle ensures you’re ready for anything, from structural fires to large-scale industrial challenges.

Changeable Flow Disk

The changeable flow disc lets you adjust flow rates, ensuring long-term value without the need for nozzle replacements.

Versatile Inlet Options

Choose the inlet that matches your team’s preferences: 1.5” (38mm) or 2.5” (65mm), with rigid or swivel rocker options for added flexibility.

Fixed Rubber Teeth

Integrated into the nozzle’s front bumper, these teeth create a fully filled fog pattern by directing water toward the center of the stream. This design effectively pushes heat, flames, and smoke ahead of the nozzle operator, making it ideal for advancing hose lines and providing a protective fog pattern.

Spinning Metal Teeth

Crafted from durable stainless steel, the spinning metal teeth rotate to produce a wide, protective fog pattern with fine water droplets. This design enhances heat absorption and steam conversion, making it particularly effective in scenarios like liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fires. The spinning action minimizes “fingering” in the water stream, ensuring a consistent and effective fog pattern. This option is available exclusively on Metro 1 nozzles, offering a specialized feature for advanced firefighting needs.

Slide Valve (Metro 1)

The slide valve delivers smooth and consistent flow control, even when partially closed, giving firefighters unmatched command over water delivery in the heat of the moment. On Metro 1 nozzles, the detented flow positions let operators regulate flow with precision, tailoring it to what’s needed for the job or what can be safely and effectively handled.

Break-Apart Option

The break-apart functionality enables seamless transitions between configurations, ensuring adaptability in any scenario.

Narrow Fog Capability

The Metro nozzle’s focused narrow fog stream effectively cuts through intense heat and smoke, making it ideal for advancing hose lines. This pattern balances reach and heat absorption for safer fireground operations. It is also a key tool for hydraulic ventilation, directing smoke and heat out of openings like windows.

Wide Fog Capability

The wide fog capability creates a broad water curtain for exposure protection, shielding firefighters and structures from radiant heat and embers. It also supports hydraulic ventilation by covering large openings to expel smoke, improving interior conditions during firefighting operations.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Metro (FAQ)

Every Metro nozzle is ordered with a fire department specified flow and pressure rating. Because the Metro nozzle has a fixed opening, once you supply the rated pressure to the inlet of the nozzle, you deliver the specified flow rate.

You always have the ability, intentionally or unintentionally, to under-pump or over-pump a nozzle to achieve different flow rates and pressures, however, the Metro nozzle can be easily changed in the field by removing the current flow washer, which is on the exit baffle of the nozzle and installing a new flow washer. Each washer has a different thickness based on the pressure and flow requirements.

If you’re using an external foam eductor, it’s important to ensure the nozzle’s flow rate matches the eductor’s flow rate for the best quality of finished foam. The Metro nozzle also offers optional aspirating tubes to achieve a higher expansion rate for finished foam.

Yes, and it is very common that a department’s initial attack package has a certain size smooth bore and a fog nozzle to hydraulically match that smoothbore.

Check the pressure and flow rating of your current smooth bore and make sure that pressure and flow rating match the Metro nozzle option you are trying to specify.

For example, a 7/8” smooth bore which delivers 160 GPM @ 50 PSI, the Metro nozzle model specified should also be 160 GPM @ 50 PSI, which would be TFT model number ME1V-226.
