Summary: The TFT PRO/pak offers firefighters three practical foam application options tailored to different fireground needs: a straight stream smooth bore for reach, a low expansion nozzle for general coverage, and a medium expansion nozzle for thicker foam blankets. While one video breakdown referred to the medium expansion nozzle as a “higher-expansion” option compared to low expansion, it’s important to clarify that none of the attachments are high-expansion nozzles in the technical sense. Knowing what each nozzle truly delivers ensures better on-scene decisions and foam effectiveness during salvage and overhaul operations.
In salvage and overhaul situations, having the right foam nozzle at your fingertips can make a big difference in how efficiently you contain hazards and limit water damage. The TFT PRO/pak gives you three easy-to-swap nozzle options to match the job in front of you—each with a unique profile and purpose.
This nozzle delivers the longest-reaching and hardest-hitting stream in the PRO/pak kit. It’s ideal for deep-seated fires, wildland mop-up, and exterior attack where you need your foam stream to penetrate brush or reach across obstacles. Because it entrains minimal air, the foam is denser, travels farther, and handles well in wind. If your goal is straight-line impact with minimal expansion, this is your nozzle.
This nozzle offers a solid balance of foam production and stream reach. It provides a blanket of finished foam with some air entrainment, making it a good choice for broader salvage coverage and exposure protection. It’s quicker to apply than medium expansion and easier to control in tight spaces, offering dependable performance without a dramatic increase in volume.
The medium expansion nozzle gives you the thickest foam blanket available from the PRO/pak lineup. While a speaker in the training video referred to it as the “higher-expansion attachment,” this term was used in a relative sense—it provides higher expansion than the low expansion option, but it is not technically a “high-expansion” nozzle.
This nozzle mechanically agitates the solution, entrains more air, and creates a dense, clinging foam that’s perfect for overhaul and vapor suppression. It trades off some reach and velocity for a richer application. If you’re covering debris piles, smoldering voids, or sealing off flammable residues, this nozzle maximizes coverage and dwell time.
All three nozzles snap into the PRO/pak’s all-in-one system. It includes a 2.5-gallon foam reservoir, built-in eductor with adjustable injection from 0.1% to 6%, and compatibility with 1” or 1.5” hose lines. Lightweight and easy to carry with its shoulder strap, the unit delivers up to 12 GPM at 100 PSI. One tank of 1% concentrate can create up to 15,000 gallons of finished foam using 250 gallons of water, assuming 60:1 expansion from the medium expansion nozzle.
Confusing nozzle terms: The medium expansion nozzle may be referred to informally as “higher-expansion,” but it’s not a true high-expansion nozzle. That distinction matters.
Picking the wrong stream: Don’t default to thick foam when you need reach, or vice versa.
Skipping the post-use flush: While it’s normal for foam concentrate to remain in the tank, failing to flush the metering and valve assembly with water after use can leave residue that gums up the system. Over time, this can lead to sticking components, improper eduction, or even full system failure. Flush the PRO/pak after every use to keep it ready for the next call.
The PRO/pak is built for versatility, but it’s on you to make the right call based on conditions. Whether you’re stretching long into a wildland mop-up or standing over a smoldering floor joist, the right nozzle will help you finish the job faster and cleaner. Make sure your crew knows the differences.
