How to Identify and Replace Your TFT Storz Coupling:
A Complete Guide to 4-Inch and 5-Inch Repair Kits

REPAIR KITS 2

In this video, we’re going to go over a couple of the Storz coupling repair kits or replacement kits that are available, should you need those. The ones we’re going to talk about today are the 4-inch Storz coupling kits as well as the 5-inch Storz coupling kit. These kits may be used if, for some reason, you damage one of your existing couplings and need to replace it. Or maybe you’re converting hose sizes or hose types—going from a threaded to a Storz, or going from a 4-inch Storz to a 5-inch Storz, or vice versa. These kits are available for doing that.

We’ll start first with the A4115-KIT. This is the 5-inch Storz coupling kit. It comes with everything you need to take off the existing coupling and install the new one. It includes a locking lever already installed and a front pressure gasket. The kit includes the complete Storz coupling, the bearing retainer strip, as well as the loaded cup seal to make the internal seal. There is a lockout screw, so you can configure the coupling to be either swivel or rigid. Additionally, there’s also the strap bearing holder tool used to remove the existing coupling to facilitate the installation of the new coupling.

On the 4-inch Storz kit, the A4114-KIT, this will also include the removal tool, bearing strip, and a loaded cup seal. This one doesn’t have a loose screw in the kit. There is a 7/16-inch stainless steel ball bearing because, in this case, that’s what’s used to lock the reducing mate in place. The screw itself will already be installed. You can determine rigid or swivel by adjusting that screw.

Now, you’ll notice that the 4-inch Storz coupling uses a reducing mate to reduce the bearing strip size, to facilitate installation of the 4-inch Storz. This is used in cases where both the 4-inch and 5-inch Storz couplings use the same valve elbow. We need the reducing mate installed to fit the 4-inch coupling. If you have a very early valve, roughly 2004 or earlier, it may allow direct installation of the 4-inch Storz coupling without a reducing mate. In those cases, if you are upsizing to a different coupling, you’ll need to replace the elbow as well.

If you have cases where you’re using a larger coupling, such as on an LDH elbow or a jumbo intake elbow, the diameter of the casting where the coupling attaches may be larger than usual. Again, in those cases, if you’re converting to a 4-inch or 5-inch Storz, you will also need to replace the elbow.

There are a lot of ‘ifs’ and variables when it comes to Storz coupling kits or configurations. If you’re unsure about the replacements you need or have additional questions, you can reach out to us at tft.com for support.

What This Page Is

Your TFT intake valve coupling is damaged, worn out, or you’re upgrading hose types or sizes. You don’t need to replace the entire valve—just select the right Storz coupling kit. This page gives you:

– Clear part numbers for 4″ and 5″ Storz coupling kits
– Key differences between each kit
– Details on what’s included
– Guidance for special valve cases (Jumbo or older models)
– Info on when an elbow change is required

No downloads. No guesswork. Everything you need is right here.

Storz coupling kits are designed to help you replace damaged couplings or convert between hose styles—like switching from threaded to Storz connections, or adjusting between 4" and 5" sizes. These kits are a direct replacement solution and restore performance without needing to purchase an entirely new intake valve.

The 5" kit includes everything needed for a full coupling replacement:
- Complete Storz coupling with locking lever
- Bearing retainer strip and loaded cup seal
- Front pressure gasket pre-installed
- Lockout screw for swivel/rigid setup
- Strap bearing holder tool for removal and install

The 4" kit includes the following components:
- Coupling with screw pre-installed
- Bearing strip and loaded cup seal
- Strap bearing holder tool
- A 7/16" stainless steel ball bearing for securing the reducing mate

Rigidity or swivel is controlled by adjusting the included screw.

The reducing mate allows a 4" coupling to fit on a valve elbow that also supports 5". It's common on newer valves. Older valves (pre-2004) may already accept a 4" coupling directly—without the reducing mate. If you're upsizing the coupling, you may also need to replace the elbow to ensure compatibility.

Some intakes have large-diameter elbows that may not support direct conversion to 4" or 5" Storz. In these cases, you’ll need to replace the elbow casting along with the coupling. This is especially true for jumbo-style or LDH valves.

We know there are a lot of Storz combinations and configurations. If you're unsure what your valve has or what parts you need, take a clear photo and send it to our support team at tft.com. We'll help you identify the exact repair or upgrade solution.
