Smooth Bore Power. Pattern Control Added.
The Vortex® is a smooth bore nozzle enhancement designed to give firefighters more stream pattern versatility without limiting flow. It installs behind a smooth bore tip and allows crews to operate in either a straight stream or a uniformly dispersed narrow fog pattern while maintaining consistent water delivery.
Vortex gives smooth bore users the ability to switch between a solid straight stream and a narrow-dispersed pattern from the same nozzle setup. Crews can knock down fire with a strong smooth bore stream, then shift to a broken stream pattern for protection or ventilation tasks.
Traditional methods of partially gating a nozzle to create a fog-like pattern can reduce flow. Vortex solves this by creating a narrow fog pattern without significantly restricting the waterway, helping maintain consistent flow rate in either stream mode.
For handlines, Vortex is available as a tip only, with a valve, or with a valve and grip. For monitor applications, it is available in 2.5" / 65 mm, 3.5" / 88 mm, and 6" / 152 mm sizes.
Use the smooth bore straight stream for reach, penetration, and knockdown, then switch to a dispersed pattern when the crew needs added protection or cooling.
The narrow fog pattern helps protect exposures while maintaining the water delivery expected from a smooth bore setup.
Vortex gives crews a dispersed stream option for hydraulic ventilation without requiring a separate combination nozzle.
The controlled broken stream pattern can support gas cooling tactics while keeping the nozzle setup simple and efficient.

Vortex uses internal vanes that introduce a gentle spin to the water. This disperses the stream into a narrow fog pattern without significantly restricting the waterway.
Yes. TFT states that Vortex can be used with compatible smooth bore nozzles and can also work with other brands of smooth bore nozzles.
Vortex lets firefighters move from straight stream knockdown to a dispersed pattern for exposure protection, gas cooling, hydraulic ventilation, car fires, dumpster fires, void space coverage, salvage, and overhaul without changing nozzle setups.
