What is the Vortex?

The Vortex smooth bore nozzle is an innovative firefighting tool designed to enhance the functionality of traditional smooth bore nozzles. Vortex installs behind your smooth bore tip and allows you to operate in a straight stream or a uniformly dispersed pattern without limiting flow. It features a built-in ring and six durable, aluminum fins that pivot to introduce a gentle spin to the water, dispersing it into a narrow fog pattern. This design enables firefighters to switch between a hard-hitting straight stream and a dispersed pattern for various tactical needs, all while maintaining optimal flow rate and minimal friction loss.

For Handlines: Available as a tip only, with valve, or with valve and grip.
• For Monitors: Available in 2.5″ (65 mm), 3.5″ (88 mm), and 6″ (152 mm) sizes.

What problems does the Vortex solve?

Maintaining Flow Rate in Different Stream Patterns

Traditional methods of gating a nozzle to achieve a fog pattern can result in a significant loss of flow rate. Vortex eliminates this issue by allowing firefighters to switch from a solid stream to a narrow broken stream without sacrificing flow rate. This ensures consistent water delivery, whether using a straight stream for knockdown or a fog pattern for exposure protection or hydraulic ventilation.

Versatility on the Fire Ground

Vortex expands the range of tactical options available on the fire ground. Firefighters can quickly adapt to different scenarios, such as exposure protection, gas cooling, car fires, dumpster fires, void space coverage, salvage and overhaul, and hydraulic ventilation, all with the same nozzle setup.

Foam Compatibility

The Vortex can be used with an inline foam eductor, onboard foam system, or CAFS, making your smooth bore nozzle compatible with foam applications for enhanced fire suppression capabilities.

Key Features

Dual-Functionality

Vortex allows seamless switching between a solid stream and a narrow fog pattern without affecting flow rate. This versatility enables firefighters to tackle various challenges on the fire ground with a single tool.

Internal Vanes

The short, internal vanes within the Vortex introduce a controlled spin to the water as it exits the nozzle. These vanes are less intrusive than a typical stream straightener, ensuring that the water disperses into a narrow fog pattern with virtually no friction loss.

Compatibility

Vortex is available for both handline and monitor smooth bore nozzles. They can be paired with any smooth bore up to 1 ¼” (32 mm) for use on 1 ½” (38 mm) to 2.5″ (65 mm) hose lines, as well as with master stream smooth bores and stacked tips. The Vortex is compatible with both manual and electric remote versions, and it can be used with other brands of smooth bore nozzles.

Robust Construction

Vortex is built with durable, aluminum fins and a sturdy ball valve shutoff, ensuring long-lasting performance even in demanding firefighting conditions. The vanes are designed to allow large debris to pass through easily, reducing the risk of clogging.

Foam Compatibility

Vortex can be used with inline foam eductors, onboard foam systems, or CAFS, adding foam application capability to your smooth bore nozzle setup.

How is it possible to get a narrow fog pattern without losing flow rate?

FAQ

Yes, Vortex can be used with any smooth bore nozzle that pairs with a 1 3/8″ or 2 ½” hose line. It is also compatible with other brands of smooth bore nozzles.

Vortex’s internal vanes introduce a gentle spin to the water, creating a narrow fog pattern without restricting flow. This design ensures that the flow rate remains consistent, whether using a straight or broken stream.

Vortex allows firefighters to quickly switch from a straight stream for fire knockdown to a fog pattern for exposure protection, gas cooling, and other tasks, without the need to change nozzles. This versatility enhances efficiency and effectiveness on the fire ground.
