How to Lubricate and Maintain Your M-R2000 Masterstream Nozzle

Proper maintenance keeps your nozzle performing like new. Over time, you may notice stiffness when switching between fog and straight stream or when adjusting the pressure control setting. That’s your signal it’s time for basic field lubrication. This guide walks you through step-by-step lubrication of the M-R2000 Masterstream nozzle, using recommended products and simple procedures to keep your nozzle reliable on the fireground.

Recommended Lubricants

Use only non-penetrating lubricants.

  • Preferred: Break-Free® CLP
  • Alternative: Remington® gun oil
    • Avoid penetrating lubricants like WD-40®, as these can break down O-rings and cause long-term problems.

Step 1: Lubricate the Nozzle Barrel

  1. Apply a thin bead of lubricant between the shaper and barrel all the way around.
  2. Cycle the nozzle from fog to straight stream multiple times to work the lubricant into the moving parts.

Step 2: Service the Pressure Control Unit

The front end of the nozzle houses the pressure control unit, which allows adjustment from 120 PSI down to 80 PSI.

  1. Locate the laser-etched “FLUSH” marking on the unit.
  2. Unthread the front end to separate it from the nozzle.
  3. Inside you’ll find:
    • Piston and cylinder
    • Main shaft
    • Poppet and spring (regulates pressure)

Step 3: Lubricate O-Rings and Internal Surfaces

  1. Lightly spray all O-rings, including those on the poppet and inside the pressure control unit.
  2. Apply lubricant down the center of the nozzle body.
  3. Avoid over-lubrication—just enough to coat the surfaces.

Step 4: Reassemble

  1. Reinsert the components.
  2. Thread the pressure control unit back on until it bottoms out and stops.
  3. Cycle the nozzle through fog and straight stream again to ensure smooth operation.

Why Regular Lubrication Matters

  • Reduces sticking during stream and pressure adjustments
  • Extends nozzle service life
  • Prevents O-ring wear and failure
  • Ensures reliable waterflow when it matters most

Performing this quick maintenance as needed helps guarantee your M-R2000 nozzle is always fire-ready.
