"We are working to put our new frontline engine in service and need an intake valve. With so many options out there, what are the most important considerations when trying to specify the right intake valve?"
In this episode of Ask TFT, Brian Pods gives you three tips for choosing the right intake valve for your needs.
Waterway Size and Friction Loss
When choosing an intake valve, you should consider the waterway size. It's all about supplying the truck with the highest flow rate with the lowest friction loss. Getting the largest possible waterway for your setup will allow you to supply a high flow rate and experience minimal friction loss from the appliance.
Pump Panel Layout
Today's pump panels are sometimes small and often behind a roll up door. As you look at intake valve options, you should consider the size and layout of your pump panel and whether there is a door or other obstruction that would keep a larger intake valve from fitting into the space properly.
You may need to look for a low profile option to get an intake valve that fits in a busy pump panel or behind a roll up door.
Cost of Ownership
After you get an intake valve, you want it to last for a long time. Consider the warranty provided with your intake valve, including whether it comes with an extended manufacturers warranty and a corrosion warranty. These will help ensure the longest life span for your purchase and help keep your truck in service.
