How Does Your Firefighting Nozzle Affect Reach

It is often thought that the type of nozzle you use affects the reach of your water stream. This is not true.
In this video, you will see that if the flow rate remains the same, the nozzle with the highest discharge pressure will reach the farthest. This is true across the different types of nozzles flowing a straight stream pattern, though this example uses a
Metro 1 nozzle
flowing 150 GPM at various pressures.
How Does Gravity Effect Stream Reach?
As water exits your nozzle, gravity immediately begins to pull it toward earth. The time it takes to hit the ground is the same, no matter how much distance is travelled. This means that the distance travelled relies on the exit velocity of your stream.
